FINISHES

Four-D Metal Finishing offers an array of coatings to meet your needs

Anodized Aluminum Type II

Anodize is a process done on aluminum. When aluminum is anodized, a naturally occurring oxidation is brought to the surface by submerging the part in an acid bath and applying a DC electrical charge to it. A DC positive charge is then applied to an aluminum anode also submerged in the same acid bath. The pull from the positive charge then draws the molecules within the negatively charged part to the surface making the part much harder than normal aluminum. When this occurs, the part becomes non-conductive, very porous. At this time, the part can be dyed a variety of colors or left clear. The last step is to seal the parts to close the pores and avoid discoloration.

Alodine

Alodine is a process done on aluminum. It is a chemical film that is applied by process of immersion. This process allows for significant corrosion protection. Alodine is beneficial because while providing excellent corrosion protection, the part still remains conductive. Alodine also creates a bonding agent for paint to adhere to. Our chemical film can be applied in either a clear or gold color. Other common names for Alodine are Chemical Film, Irridite and Chromate Conversion.

Chemical Cleaning & Bright Dip

Chemical cleaning is done to remove machining oils and to brighten up parts. Various options of chemical cleaning and bright dipping are available per customer request. Please call to discuss your needs.

Passivate

Passivate is a process that is done on stainless steel. Passivation is achieved when parts are properly cleaned to remove oils and dirt then dipped into a nitric acid or a citric acid solution to remove all foreign metals from the stainless steel part. This process is essential because it greatly reduces the likelihood of the stainless steel from corroding.

  • ASTM-A967-13

  • Special testing available

  • Citric and Nitric acid capabilities

Zinc Type I, II, III, V, VI

Zinc plating is a process done on steel, bronze, and copper. Zinc plating occurs when parts are submerged in a solution with a positive charge. A negative charge is then applied to a zinc anode. This causes zinc deposits to be pulled from the negatively charged anode to the passively charged parts surface. After the zinc transfer is complete, parts are coated with a chromate or passivate solution. This solution can be either a clear, blue, black or yellow. The chromate or passivate increases the life expectancy of the part. Zinc plated parts allow solid corrosion protection, as well as a great coating for paint preparation.
